Introduction

Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of free India, was born on 3rd December 1884 in Bihar. His childhood was spent in his village.

Education

From the very beginning, he was a very bright student. He always stood first in his class. In 1902, he got the first position in the Entrance Examination of Calcutta University. He passed his M.A. in 1907 and LL.B. in 1910.

Influence of Gandhi Ji

He was much influenced by the Non-Co-operation movement of Gandhi Ji. So he became his follower and took a tour to organize meetings in the interest of the common people of Bihar.

His work

In 1934 the earthquake created havoc in Bihar. Rajendra Prasad did his best to help the victims. He did his best to raise funds the help the suffering millions. Through his selfless work, he became very popular. So he was called Desh Ratna.

He was arrested and sent to jail several times. Once he was badly beaten by the police. He took part in the Quit India Movement of Gandhi ji in 1942. He was elected as the President of Congress many times. He become the first President of the Indian Republic in 1950.

Qualities

He was a true follower of Gandhi Ji. He suffered much for the freedom of his country. He was an honest and simple man. He had much sympathy for the poor. He was a man of life upright. He was gentle towards all.

Conclusion

Few leaders are so much loved and obeyed as he. His sweet nature, deep learning, sacrifice, and blotless character made him dear to everyone. So everyone was sad when he died on 28th February 1963 in Bihar.
